PROGRAMMES
The School
Development Centre (SDC) offers teachers of all levels the opportunity for
personal and professional development through a commitment to programmes from
initial professional preparation to continuing professional development.
Continuing professional development is relevant to all teachers. It is about
making progress in the teaching profession — increasing teachers' skills,
knowledge and understanding.
1.
‘Once Upon a Time: Telling Stories in the Classroom’

|
School Development Centre is organizing a session on “Once
Upon a Time: Telling Stories in the Classroom”. During the session the
participants will listen to stories, and learn how to tell stories too.
They will consider where to find good stories, and how to use them in the
curriculum. It will open new pathways of learning, creativity, and
wisdom for their students and themselves. The workshop will be facilitated
by Ms. Ann Nagy, a Canadian teacher, who retired from a career in special
education at both elementary and secondary levels. She obtained her
B.A. at the
University
of
Toronto
, and M.Ed. at Memorial University of Newfoundland. She has given
workshops on Storytelling and Music for various professional teachers’
associations and several
Karachi
schools during this visit and her previous visit in 2005. She has
also offered enrichment classes in the Pre-Semester Intensive English
Language Course and the Academic Support Unit for MEd students at IED.
The first session will be held at 2:00 pm. – 5:00 pm. on
Wednesday April 25, 2007 for the Pre-Primary & Primary English
Language Teachers of HGS & GAS. The venue is HGS. |

session will be held at 1:00 pm. – 3:30 pm. on Wednesday May 2, 2007 for the
Primary English Language Teachers of HPS, Green Shield School & GAS. The venue
is HPS.
2. Performance Appraisals
An effective
performance appraisal system motivates employees by informing them what is
expected of them, how they’re doing, and how they can do better. It also helps
the management in making equitable promotion decisions. The session aims to
enable the participants to understand that how do performance appraisals fit
into the institution’s perspectives and what are the appropriate methods of
doing appraisals. It is a three hour session which will be held from 12:30 pm to
3:30 pm on Friday April 6, 2007 at SDC.

|

|
3. Pedagogical Leadership Practices: Team Building
Pedagogical leadership is a more effective alternative to bureaucratic,
visionary and entrepreneurial leadership in improving schools. It develops human capital
by helping schools become caring, focused and inquiring communities
within which teachers work together as a team. The session aims
to look at the
various methods of team building. It is a two hour session which will be held
from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm on Thursday April 5, 2007 at SDC.
‘Feedback on students’ written work’
Second session on ‘Feedback on students’ written work’ will be held for the
teachers of grade IV and V of HPS from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Tuesday April 3,
2007 at SDC. The focus of the session will be to examine the current practices
of providing feedback on students’ written work, script checking and script
